Theatre at Oberon Middle School

Welcome to the Oberon theatre program! Our theatre classes are exciting, interactive, challenging and fun! We have a safe and inclusive space to create, play, perform, build grit, try out new skills, use teamwork tools, adapt to stage fright and think critically about performances and productions.

In these classes, students will learn how to collaboratively create and produce theatre productions. Theatre classes help students develop life skills such as public speaking, teamwork and presenting. Students will also learn technical aspects of theatre.

CTE Certification

The theatre elective at Oberon is a certified Colorado Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. This means we provide a high-quality educational theatre arts experience that emphasizes core academic content, post-secondary workforce readiness competencies, technical skills and a transition to further education and employment in the field of theatre.

CTE programs ensure a thriving Colorado economy by providing relevant and rigorous education that is connected, responsive and real. CTE increases student achievement, lowers the dropout rate and enriches the individual student as well as our Oberon community.

Theatre is a "life skills" class, and a lot of parents ask what they can do at home to help facilitate their child's soft skill development [personal and emotional intelligence or "EQ"].

This is an ideal time to empower your child to give them tools so they are ready to be independent and self-sustaining in the real world.

The Power of the Adolescent Brain, by Thomas Armstrong
- Based on current neuroscience research, this book explains what we know about how the adolescent brain works! The book provides eight essential elements that will help students better develop the ability to think, make healthy choices, regulate emotions, and problem-solve during conflict.
iGen, by Jean M. Twenge, Ph.D.
- Data-driven and research-based book explaining kids' relationship with devices and social media and how that affects their ability to socialize and mature. A great and empowering tool for parents to set (and model) boundaries to raise well-rounded, social, balanced and prepared humans.
The Boy Crisis, by Warren Farrell, Ph.D. and John Gray, Ph.D.
- An empowering look at what it means to be a boy or man in this day and age. Through the lens of statistics and reasons behind why boys behave the way they do, and what teachers and parents can do to best support developing young men.
Parenting the Teenage Brain, by Sheryl Feinstein
- This a quick read and simple guide that matches best parenting practices with the neurological and biological science behind why teenagers behave and feel the way they do. A very comprehensive and useful tool for breaking down peer pressure and the many choices a young adult has to face - and how parents can help prepare them.
Raising Cain, Protecting the Emotional Life of Boys, by Dan Kindlon, Ph.D. and Michael Thompson, Ph.D.
- A must-read for any parent raising a son. The book breaks down the massive importance of giving boys a safe and open environment where they are allowed to feel.
