Welcome Incoming 6th Grade Students!

Congratulations on your enrollment acceptance at Oberon!  We are looking forward to meeting you and welcoming you to middle school! Please see this information for successful next steps as you prepare for your Oberon Middle School Experience!  We are excited to get to know you!

Last Call - Registration and Elective Classes Interest 

Most families have already completed this, but a reminder to please complete your registration card if you haven’t already done so and turn it in ASAP. We are still building the master schedule so if you didn’t get it done until now that’s okay. Your student’s elective preferences will still be prioritized the same as all other future 6th graders.

A helpful document to review is our Oberon Registration Booklet. This will describe all of our elective class offerings as well as other important course information of interest.

If you still need to submit elective preferences,  please PRINT and complete the 6th Grade Registration Card. Please drop them off at Oberon, send them to us via postal mail (address below), send by fax to 303-982-2021, or scan and email to sarah.leonard@jeffco.k12.co.us.  You may also pick up printed copies from our school office, 303-982-2020.

In order to receive the above forms in a timely manner, we request that families submit these forms as soon as possible to the main office so our scheduling team has this information.

Student Benefits Application

Please complete the Student Benefits Application on https://www.schoolcafe.com/. Students are already given free breakfast and lunch for all students, but completing this form can cause fees to be waived for classes, Outdoor Lab, etc. 

It also helps the school’s overall budget to provide more programs and opportunities.  Take a look at this letter for more information. 

“Start Your Voyage” Oberon Visit

This day will be Monday, May 4th. 

Phase 1: 5th Grade Field Trip during School Day from ~9:30 AM to 12:15 PM 

5th grade elementary students will have the opportunity to visit Oberon during the school day. Students from our feeder elementary schools will be given the opportunity to take a field trip and jump on the bus to Oberon around 9:15AM. At 9:30AM they will tour our building and meet teachers, support staff, and observe some showcases from our performing arts elective students.  Students will finish by having lunch and enjoying recess before getting back on the bus and being back at their elementary school around 12:30PM. Choice enrollment students are welcome during this event. Families will just need to arrange drop off (9:30AM)  and pick up (12:15PM) for their students since there won’t be bus transportation. 

Phase 2: All New Viking Families Evening Event from 5:00-6:15PM 

Family and Student “Start Your Voyage” evening at Oberon.  This is a time to meet our future families and students for building tours, time to practice locker combinations, and meet school staff prior to the 6th grade orientation day on the first day of school in August.  

Parents/Guardians will also learn important information during this evening event.

Incoming 6th Grade Orientation Day

Staff and 8th grade Oberon Ambassadors will conduct an exciting orientation day for all new 6th graders on the first day of school on August 19.  This day, our incoming 6th grade students will be the only students in attendance at Oberon.  We design this day to help students build relationships and engage in further orientation activities.  More information will be shared in July family communications.  

This orientation day is ONLY for future 6th grade students.  We present a different orientation process for our incoming 7th and 8th graders on their first day of school attendance in the fall.

The first day of school for 7th and 8th grade at Oberon is August 20.

Future Need To Know Information

Over the summer, Oberon will finalize all the items families will need to know and you will receive communication by email regarding schedules and other information around August 1.

This communication will include: 

• School supply lists (below) & information about class schedules 
• Oberon Locker agreement
• School fees and payment steps, Lunch account information
• Medical information & bus transportation information (if applicable)
• The dates and times for our student “move in” day (students will have access to “move in” to their lockers and tour the school before the start of the year)

Our spiritwear store link is now open and will close on June 15^th  for an early August delivery.https://oberonfutureviking.itemorder.com/. 

Items can be picked up from the main office once they are delivered during office hours. Otherwise they will be delivered to students during the first week of school.

Starting middle school can be an exciting time for students transitioning from elementary school. By definition, transition means the change from one place, state of being, or condition to another place, state of being, or condition. This transition is often complex. 

As young adolescents are changing school buildings they are also changing hormonally, mentally, and physically. This transition affects young adolescents’ academic experiences, motivation, self-perception, and self-regulation. This process also affects parents and teachers.

Effective transition programs help students move to a new school and become a part of the new school. With the implementation of transition programs and the support of parents, teachers, administrators, and mental health professionals, this transition can positively impact students both socially and academically.
